Employment Opportunities

Research Scientist / Postdoctoral Associate

Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics

The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks candidates to fill positions in Structural Biology.

Our NIH-funded research program involves structural studies of viral protein – host protein complexes and  integral membrane proteins (IMPs), that are targets for antimicrobial drug discovery.  Projects involve structure-dynamic-function studies using integrative methods of  bioinformatics, NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and molecular modeling.

A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a field closely related to Structural Biology. Expertise in membrane protein biochemistry is highly desirable. Candidates with extensive experience in preparing IMPs but limited experience in structure determination are also encouraged to apply.  Salaries follow standard NIH guidelines.

Biochemistry Laboratory Manager / Technician

Protein Chemistry and Molecular Biology

The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks candidates to fill biochemistry and molecular biology technician positions in Structural Biology.

Job responsibilities include assisting in conducting specialized biochemical research involving the application of structural biology approaches to the problems of molecular biophysics, virology, cancer biology, and proteomics. The work entails construction of expression plasmids for genes from human and other genomes, expression of these constructs in bacterial and yeast hosts, and purification and evaluation of the resultant recombinant proteins and nucleic acids.

The successful candidate will collaborate with other team members to characterize these biomolecules biochemically and biophysically, and prepare suitable quantities of these proteins for structural studies.

Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an appropriate life science discipline such as biochemistry or molecular biology. This experience must include familiarity with molecular biology and the expression and purification of recombinant proteins.  Salary range is commensurate with experience.
